Microsoft is laying off people.

Telling lies that they're doubling down to be more efficient.

Tell the truth, Microsoft!

You just failed to be a good employer!

And for the last couple of years, you have behaved like a rich, obese kid in a candy store!

I'm genuinely gutted about Perfect Dark i was really looking forward to it! From someone who grew up on the N64 it really is a sad time. Yet we get Black Ops 7 instead go figure

Sadness about the layoffs. Lots of ex Arkane Austin folks who went over to Bethesda were impacted by that round

"Sure, getting back to the original formula would definitely be great for the hardcore fans, but would it be better for all the gamers?"

Yes, its the core from FF, when they changed was better for all the gamers? If the main franchise is turn based you shouldnt change it, because they sell this franchise as turn based and have success as turn based, like FF did. You have the spin offs to change, but the main core games you CAN'T change, the "hardcore gamers" are the one who buy those games with the love and passion for that games. If you change, one day you'll get back to the origins, because THAT was what sell the game.

The layoffs at Xbox are unfortunate for the employees affected. But this is a self-inflicted injury by Microsoft, having mismanaged this business for the past 15 years.

They need a different approach to how they run their games. But they also need to get away from trying to optimize everything to sell more consoles every few years. It should be the other way around - the Xbox should be in support of the incredible content.

Square Enix wanting to make turn-based games again feels like they're missing the mark about what made Clair Obscura so good. My Opinion (with a capital O lol) is that Clair Obscura wasn't a success BECAUSE it was a turn-based game. And if Square can't see that...I'd be worried for the future of the FF franchise.

I think I posted this elsewhere too, but the evolution of turn-based games will be in how it balances pacing -- I think the best games will feature mechanics that appeal to those who like the traditional slower pace that can be tweaked for a near real-time or faster paced action.

That's true, there are a lot of aspects that make Expedition 33 a great game, but big companies tend to focus on only a few things at a time, and sometimes they are correct, and sometimes they are not. We'll just have to wait and see

The Microsoft news is sad. Make a good game equals layoffs, make a bad game equals layoffs, record profits, and still layoffs.

Why would anyone in their right mind work for this company willingly?

Well, we all work for the pleasure of doing video games, and those guys are simply exploiting that desire as much as they can. It's a very corrupt cycle that we can't seem to break out of...

I don't think Netflix will stop having game plans.

The licences they have for these games just ended. It's not like they owned the titles that's disappearing... It's the same as they have with movies they didn't make.

That's true, though for a company that's trying to reach as many gamers as they can, it's a bit weird that they opted out of just extending the licenses...
