From a story teller's perspective it would be better if The Last of Us season 2 picked up right after the first season and fill in the blanks or tell an apocryphic side story. No point in sticking exactly to the games.
True, I'm also wondering what kinds of challenges there were between 1 and 2. But with the first season pretty much capturing the first game, I think everybody expects season 2 to be the same.
Assuming it does well, they are probably going to have problems with season 3 though, after they run out of the source material 😅
There may be a world where they cut some chunks of Part 2 to get more content for season 3, but I'm thinking they'll start doing spinoffs about Joel, Abby or maybe the time before season 1 even. I'd watch that

Exactly, I don't think they're willing to take a break after adapting Part 2.
