Letâs dig in!
đź Cancelled Prey 2 Gameplay
If you played an original Prey game back in 2006 and liked it, you probably were excited to learn about a sequel that was planned in the 2010s. At least until Bethesda (publisher at the time) decided to cancel it in 2014. And now, more than a decade later, a former Human Head developer decided to share footage of the game.
Unfortunately, I canât share the footage as it was already taken down, but for what itâs worth, the video was showing prototype sequences, cutscenes, and most importantly, a ten-minute gameplay demo. But it was a Human Head vision with a space-based bounty hunter set as a follow-on from the 2006 game instead of a 2017 survival horror game.
When the game was cancelled, Bethesdaâs Pete Hines said:
It was a game we believed in, but we never felt that it got to where it needed to be ââ we never saw a path to success if we finished it. It wasnât up to our quality standard, and we decided to cancel it. Itâs no longer in development. That wasnât an easy decision, but itâs one that wonât surprise many folks given that we hadnât been talking about it. Human Head Studios is no longer working on it. Itâs a franchise we still believe we can do something with â we just need to see what that something is.
While both 2006 and 2017 were good games, they are completely different. I respect that maybe continuing something from 2006 wasnât the right choice for the IP, but I canât help but wonder what wouldâve been if the game was indeed finishedâŠ
Have you played 2006 Prey? What do you think about it?
đź Ubisoft On The Future of Rayman
While a lot of people are talking about Assassinâs Creed as a main franchise for Ubisoft (which it is, probably), letâs talk about another one that has more than 40 different games and dates back to 1995.
According to a recent video dedicated to the 30th Anniversary of Rayman, Ubisoft released a video on X where Loic Gounon (Brand Producer) and others talked about the future of this franchise, announced a bunch of interesting materials coming down the pike during the next months and reconfirmed that there are still things pipeline for Rayman.
Unfortunately for the fans, they said that Ubisoft Montpellier and Ubisoft Milan are âcurrently working together on the future of Raymanâ, but you shouldnât âexpect news from us too soon.â The only project thatâs been confirmed so far is Rayman Remake, codenamed Steambot.
It would be interesting to see the strategy for this particular brand going forward. When I was growing up, surprisingly, a lot of people knew about Rayman and I donât want to say itâs forgotten entirely, but it takes a while for everyone to remember what it is and what those games are about. Ubisoft definitely has some catching up to do with this one.
What do you think about Rayman?
đź Call of Duty Movie is Now Official
A few weeks ago, we talked about Paramount circling around the Call of Duty franchise to make a movie out of it, and it looks like itâs now official.
Itâs been confirmed, and Paramount CEO David Ellison, being a âlifelong fanâ and this movie being a âdream come trueâ, apparently, announced it himself just last week:
Being entrusted by Activision and players worldwide to bring this extraordinary storytelling universe to the big screen is both an honor and a responsibility that we donât take lightly. Weâre approaching this film with the same disciplined, uncompromising commitment to excellence that guided our work on Top Gun: Maverick, ensuring it meets the exceptionally high standards this franchise and its fans deserve.
To echo this, Activision President Rob Kostic added this:
The film will honor and expand upon what has made this franchise great in the first place, and we cannot wait to get started. Our shared goal is quite simple â to create an unforgettable blockbuster movie experience that our community loves, and one that also excites and inspires new fans of the franchise.
That all sounds amazing, but we all know that big, bold, empty statements like this are essentially just that and mean absolutely nothing. A promise like that is going to be very hard to keep, especially with a demanding fan base like this. Iâll be looking forward to it, though!

đź Perfect Dark Couldâve Been Saved
And while we talked about cancelled games, the news surfaced recently suggesting that the Perfect Dark reboot by Crystal Dynamics, The Initiative, and Xbox couldâve been saved from cancellation.
All of that happened after mass layoffs at Xbox in July and the shutdown of The Initiative, which sent Embracer, which owns Crystal Dynamics, scrambling for new funding.
According to Jason Schreier from Bloomberg, there were multiple pending deals in place to save this game, but they ultimately all fell through. One of them was a potential deal with Take-Two Interactive Software Inc. to purchase the game from Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox and fund and publish it, which collapsed due to disagreements over long-term ownership of the Perfect Dark franchise.
While itâs unlikely that this game, which received a lot of hype during the announcement, will ever see the light of day, there is a precedent that gives us hope. If you remember the story about Hi-Fi Rush and Tango Gameworks, you know what Iâm talking about. Maybe some other big publisher will realise that thereâs still hope in this IP and weâll hear more about it later, but for now, press F for Perfect Dark đ«Ą

đź No Manâs Sky Enjoys The Highest Player Count Since Release
Hello Games keep pumping No Manâs Sky with free updates and recently released a brand new one, Voyagers.
This update, according to a post from Sean Murray on X, brought back and attracted almost a record number of players and the highest one since launch, almost 100,000 concurrent players.
Considering the game almost died during launch and became one of the biggest comeback stories in game development history, I have to say, thatâs not bad at all!
đź Rocksteady Hires Former Assassinâs Creed Director For An Undisclosed Project
According to Insider Gaming, Rocksteady has attracted an impressive team and recently hired a former Director from Ubisoft to work on its upcoming projects.
According to LinkedIn, Bill Money, who led Assassinâs Creed Mirage, Valhalla, its Siege of Paris DLC, and Origins, recently joined Rocksteady as a Game Director. While itâs still unclear what exactly he will be directing, I have to say, he has a pretty impressive experience, and the standing bet is that his new project will be a new Batman.
đź New Left 4 Dead Shooter From A Creator
This is definitely a franchise that I havenât heard about since the release of the second game, but according to a Reddit post, Mike Booth (the creator of Left 4 Dead) surfaced to promote his new game:
Iâm Mike Booth (creator of Left 4 Dead), and Iâm excited to share that Iâm working on a brand new project âa 4-player co-op shooter built on the foundations of what made L4D special.
If you enjoyed the teamwork, tension, and replayability of my past games, youâll probably find this one interesting. It expands on the co-op formula in ways Iâve wanted to explore for a long time.
Weâre still in the early stages of development, but weâre opening up playtests to a limited number of players. If youâre interested in joining us on this next adventure and helping shape the game early on, weâd love to have you involved.
While no other information has been shared, itâs quite refreshing to see such an old IP being brought back fromâŠWell, dead đ
𫥠True Tribute!
Today I wanted to salute
and !I wanted to give
another round of applause for this category of reviews. I love coop games, and even though weâve spent numerous evenings arguing with my friends about a particular strategy during a particularly nasty Overcooked level, itâs one of the best experiences Iâve ever had. I canât stop saying this, but we need more games like this, and publications like to bring them to light!đ Personal Update
While the work on our next update for AB Bounce continues, I finally managed to get my group of friends to play No Manâs Sky! Yay!
I honestly donât know what did it, maybe a recent surge in popularity, a Steam sale or maybe I just wore them down mentioning it again and again, but I donât care, we are finally playing it and damn itâs good to be back. I realised recently, while explaining that NMS is a very unique game where the game loop is pretty much nonexistent and (as with any sandboxy game) whatever you make of it. And that itâs great to pour 100 hours into it, forget about it and then return a year later to pour yet another 100 hours đ
This is all the news I have for you folks today.
Thanks for making it this far! đ

Have a great week!
Alex from Gamedev Relay.
I still can not picture a Call of Duty movie. I feel like they dusted off some generic action flick threw Call of Duty on it just so there was some brand loyalty. The only interesting thing I could think of is if the put zombies in it, and I'm not even that big of a zombie guy.
It makes me so happy to hear that you're enjoying the co-op series, thanks for the shoutout! It's a series I hold dear to my heart so I'm glad to hear that! đ
