🎮 Everything from Nintendo Direct
June is surely packed so far with events, announcements and new games. This week another event called Nintendo Direct focused on everything exciting about their platform and games. So, without further ado, here’s everything exciting (IMHO) that Nintendo shared this week.
But a quick disclaimer, I’m not a huge fan of Nintendo and don’t own a Switch. So, my judgment may be somewhat impaired.
Mario & Luigi: Brothership
It seems like Nintendo decided to capitalize a little bit on the success of It Takes Two, which does sound brilliant when you apply this to Mario and Luigi. And with Switch controllers, adventuring together with a partner makes perfect sense.
Launching November 7th 2024 on Nintendo Switch.
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
Wow, it looks a bit different from recent Zelda games. So far it looks like an adventure animal-crossing mixed with Zelda, but it sure looks cute and funny as hell. I’m not a huge fan of games like this, but I’m sure that my partner would just love to play it since she’s been looking for something do play besides Animal Crossing.
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom launches September 26th on Nintendo Switch!
Nintendo Sports - Basketball
This sounds like a great party-like experience and I’m glad that Nintendo are still working in this direction. I briefly played Wii back in the day and it looks very familiar to me with a huge modern twist. What’s even better is that this stuff is being included for free which doesn’t happen quite often.
The free update dunks its way onto Nintendo Switch this year.
Metal Slug Attack Reloaded
Now this one brings back a lot of memories of the 2000s when I first played the old Metal Slug games. I’ve actually forgotten all about them before I saw this trailer. Of course, the game evolved already way past the point which I remember, but I immediately recognized the art style, the action and all this goodness.
The game is available now on Nintendo Switch.
LEGO Horizon Adventures
LEGO is a huge brand, but it’s quite surprising that they’ve chosen Horizon as their next project. I know that Horizon is somewhat popular or at least it used to be, but it’s nothing compared to Star Wars for example, at least in terms of the scale. Still, the game looks very funny and much more “positive” than the original. At least so far I didn’t get the apocalypse vibes.
So far it’s just the announcement with no particular release date, but still something for Horizon fans to look forward to.
Other games
There were a lot of other games announced. So if you are a fan of Nintendo and their product, you should check out this link, for example. Insider Gaming did a great job summing up all the trailers and games from this event.

🎬 New Uncharted Movie is in the works
Thanks to Variety and Kotaku, we now have confirmation that Nathan Drake’s adventures are far from over.
The first movie was a bit of a rocky release with the whole pandemic thing, multiple delays and some criticism from both fans and critics, but despite all of that it’s been a big success in terms of box office. Of course, everything pales in comparison with the box office, so it was inevitable for the studios to launch the plans for the sequel.
So far there are very little details regarding this movie, but we’ll have to assume to expect again both Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg leading the charge.
The first Uncharted movie kind of was a prequel to the games and now the betting man would think that it’s time to dive into the source material a little deeper and start covering the stories from the games, but we’ll have to wait and see to confirm this suspicion. Mainly I’m talking about the first game in the series: Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.
But everybody is still wondering, with the movie being a success and all, when are we going to see the next game?
🎮 “No rush” for new Fallout
Todd Howard recently went on the record and said that the studio is not planning to rush a new Fallout game even despite the tremendous success of the TV series and that they’ll focus on Starfield first.
Howard had quite an extensive interview with a YouTuber MrMattyPlays during the weekend and he said the following regarding the upcoming games:
For other Fallout games in the future, you know obviously I can’t talk about those right now but I would say sort of rushing through them or we kind of need to get stuff out that is different than the work we’re doing in 76, you know we don’t feel like we need to rush any of that. The Fallout TV show fills a certain niche in terms of the franchise and storytelling.
Totally get the desire for a new kind of mainline single-player game. And look, those things take time. I don’t think it’s bad for people to miss things. We just want to get it right and make sure that everything we’re doing in a franchise, whether it’s Elder Scrolls, Fallout, or now Starfield, that those become meaningful moments for everybody who loved these franchises as much as we do.
So, essentially, we can cool ourselves in terms of Fallout anticipation for the foreseeable future. And I get it. But I’m a bit sceptical about them betting on Starfield as opposed to their other franchises. Just because I’ve heard a lot of criticism about Starfield and I’m still hesitant to play it.
I want to give it a fair try, especially with the first major DLC being in development. If you haven’t heard, it’s in the works, but with no release date yet beside a vague 2024 year. But so far I haven’t heard anything positive about this particular game…
Are they betting on the wrong horse?
🎮 Ambitious Sims competitor closed
Another sad news about project cancellations and studio closures from Insider Gaming today.
Life by You was an ambitious project developed by Paradox Tectonic Studio which has been developing the game since 2019 and this week they announced both the project shutdown and the studio closure.
In a short statement published on the Paradox Interactive website, it was written:
Paradox Interactive has decided to cease further operations in the wholly owned studio Paradox Tectonic (Tectonic) in Berkeley, California. The studio has since 2019 led the development of the game Life by You, whose release is cancelled, and employs 24 people.
This is difficult and drastic news for our colleagues at Tectonic, who’ve worked hard on Life by You’s Early Access release. Sadly, with (the) cancellation of their sole project, we have to take the tough decision to close down the studio. We are deeply grateful for their hard work in trying to take Paradox into a new genre.
With the game being the sole focus of this studio, it’s not surprising. They probably bit a little bit more than they could chew, but it is still quite sad as the Sims was a dominating force in the world of life simulators for so long, it would be nice to see some new titles in the mix. Maybe the one that doesn’t have like 100 of 40$ DLCs?
I hope everybody who lost their jobs will find a new one shortly. F🫡
😄 Personal Update
The week has been a bit crazy so far as it’s my last week before a week-long vacation. Yay! My first vacation in more than 2 years. So, I’m very excited to spend some time dealing with some personal matters and my main goals are to write as much as possible.
Since I started this newsletter, I’ve been jumping from one issue of the newsletter to another only vaguely having any specific content plans or being prepared in advance. And it’s been quite challenging, to be honest. So I’m hoping to spend some good quality time thinking about future content and ways to improve the current state of affairs.
Also, this week I’ve had the privilege of working with another author on Substack,
who has an amazing channel . Be sure to check out this week’s guest post on Sunday! And I can’t express how glad I am about finding so many amazing people on this platform!
If you want to collaborate on a guest post (or two 😉), feel free to DM me. I’m always glad to work together to create some amazing content!
This is all the news I have for you folks today.
Thanks for making it this far! 🙌

Todd can say there's "no rush" for a new Fallout game, but I wonder how his Microsoft overlords feel about that.
My favorite moment of the Nintendo Direct was Fantasian leaving Apple exclusivity. It makes me happy, because now I will buy it without the need of buying an iPhone.
