Let’s dig in!
🎮 Gamescom's Opening Night
This week marks the start of one of the biggest trade fairs for video games held annually at the Koelnmesse in Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. And the Opening Night was huge!
If you had seen it, you would have known how many interesting things there were. Too many to cover in my humble newsletter, so I’ll stick to the ones that stood out to me.
If you are interested in seeing the whole list, Kotaku has a great article that shows all of them.
Let’s go!
🎮 Borderlands 4 - Teaser
In this next installment of the definitive looter shooter, players will assume the role of a legendary Vault Hunter as they blast their way through hordes of enemies in search of new treasures to loot on an all-new planet.
It’s unclear what to expect from this game since it’s just the initial announcement, but it’s definitely exciting despite the fact the movie of the same name flopped so hard…
🎮 Dying Light: The Beast - Announcement
Dying Light: The Beast is a thrilling standalone zombie adventure set in a tightly-crafted rural region. Play as Kyle Crane, a legendary hero who breaks free after years of brutal experiments. Now, he must realize there’s more at stake than just revenge.
This is exciting! I played both of the previous games and even if the second one didn’t really hit the spot for me, I’m looking forward to this one.
🎮 Dune: Awakening - Gameplay Reveal
Dune: Awakening is an open world survival MMO set on the most dangerous planet in the universe. Survive the desert by learning the ways of the Fremen. Expand your potential through combat, spice, building, and trade. As guild intrigue and warfare rage, control the spice and cling to power.
It’s an MMO in 2024, so I’m very sceptical just because I’m not sure if it’s something that I’ll end up playing even though everything about it looks good. As my friend once said: “If you are not putting 8 hours per day into the MMO, you are not playing the MMO.”
🎮 Civilization 7 - Gameplay
Construct cities and architectural wonders to expand your territory, improve your civilization with technological breakthroughs, and conquer or cooperate with rival civilizations as you explore the far reaches of the unknown world. Pursue prosperity in an immersive solo experience or play with others in online multiplayer.
I don’t know about you, but to me it looks like with every new title, the series becomes more and more beautiful. Of course, the devil is in the details, so we’ll see more when we can play it, but the trailer is extremely gorgeous IMO 😍
🎮 Mafia: The Old Country - Teaser
ncover the origins of organized crime in Mafia: The Old Country, a gritty mob story set in the brutal underworld of 1900s Sicily. Fight to survive in this dangerous and unforgiving era, with action brought to life by the authentic realism and rich storytelling that the critically acclaimed Mafia series is known for.
I played some Mafia games a while ago, but I’ve never been a huge fan. Again, it’s hard to say anything about a game just based on the teaser, but I’m surprisingly glad that the era of Mafia games is not behind us. This looks like a promising game, to say the least.
🎬 Secret Level - Trailer
Secret Level is an anthology series coming to Amazon Prime Video, and it brings several games to animated form to tell new short stories for those games
This is not about the games per se, but I’m very excited about this animated series! I love Love, Death & Robots and absolutely love the idea of the same format for short stories about video games. I think it’s an amazing initiative, the selection of games to be featured there is massive and I’m already hoping it’s going to have more than one season! 😃😃😃

🎮 No More Room in Hell 2 - Trailer
No More Room in Hell 2 is an intense permadeath co-op journey into the eerie darkness of zombie-infested zones. As an emergency responder you must survive, scavenge, stockpile and fulfill your mission - then repeat, each time in an ever-changing experience.
As a fan of zombie shooters, this one looks very promising. I haven’t played the first game, but it definitely looks like something that I’d spend a good 30 to 40 hours in.
🎮 Lost Records Bloom & Rage - Gameplay
This is an upcoming adventure game developed by Don't Nod Montréal and published by Don't Nod. The game features four former friends; Nora, Autumn, Kat, and Swann, who reunite after 27 years. It was announced at the 2023 Game Awards and will be released in two parts, with Part 1 releasing on February 18, 2025 and Part 2 releasing on March 18.
As a fan of Life is Strange, I’m happy to see another project from Don’t Nod. The initial trailer looked great, this gameplay looks amazing and I can’t wait to give this game a try once it’s live!
Phew, that’s a lot!
Let me know what was your favourite announcement during Gamescom and if you are excited about the things on my list as much as I am 🤩
🫡 True Tribute!
Today I wanted to salute
and the recent debate we had about the Greatest Debate in gaming! It’s been a pleasure to collaborate with you and I hope it’s only the first of many times. Your work is amazing!
😄 Personal Update
Very excited to see more stuff at Gamescom this week. After E3 was cancelled, I thought that the era of gaming conventions and big events was behind us, but it looks like everything is just taking a different shape and now we are going to have a lot of stuff that’s less centralized. And I hope that someday I reach the level of representing my project there 🤞
Other than that, I have a ton of work this week and probably for a few weeks after it as our game is moving and there’s a lot of stuff to be done. Unfortunately, I can’t tell you more but someday I just might 😉
This is all the news I have for you folks today.
Thanks for making it this far! 🙌
